'Scotty Jetpax': Kingery impressing this spring

CLEARWATER, Fla. -- Scott Kingery is making a heck of an impression this spring.
He went 3-for-4 with a double, home run, an RBI and a nice over-the-shoulder catch Tuesday in a 7-5 victory over the Orioles in a Grapefruit League game at Spectrum Field. Kingery is the No. 7 second base prospect in baseball, according to MLBPipeline.com, and he is playing like it.

"Scotty Jetpax," Phillies first baseman Tommy Joseph said, referring to Kingery's speed. "He's a stud. Good kid. He's always hustling. He's definitely fun to play with. He's an exciting player that showed today he can do a lot of different things on the ballfield."

"Boy, he can really play," Phillies manager Pete Mackanin said. "I like what I see out of him."
Kingery said he changed a few things with his swing in the offseason, which seems to be working. Most notably, he said he is staying back on his back leg and not drifting forward, which caused him to change his eye level.
"I was fouling off pitches that I thought I would normally hit," Kingery said.
Kingery also said he gained 7-10 pounds of muscle in the offseason, which he hopes will keep him stronger later in the season.

"My fast-twitch stuff wasn't there," Kingery said.
Kingery will be headed to Minor League camp at some point. He is expected to open the season in Double-A Reading, but he could be a fast mover.
"I feel I need to see some more time in Double-A," Kingery said. "I didn't get much time there last year. I'll just try to figure out the pitching there and climb up from there, but right now I'm just trying to have some fun out here."
