Thompson to replace Hellickson in rotation

PHILADELPHIA -- Jake Thompson will get another look in the Phillies' rotation.
He pitched five scoreless innings on short notice Friday night in a 10-3 victory over the Braves at Citizens Bank Park. Thompson learned about 30 minutes before the game that he would start, because the Phillies were finalizing a trade to send Jeremy Hellickson, who was scheduled to start, to the Orioles.
Phillies manager Pete Mackanin said Saturday that Thompson will start Wednesday on the road against the Angels. Thomspon was 4-11 with a 5.36 ERA in 18 starts this season with Triple-A Lehigh Valley.
"He kind of earned the chance to go back out there," Mackanin said.

Triple-A Lehigh Valley right-handers Ben Lively, Zach Eflin and Mark Leiter Jr. are options for starts later in the season if needed, as well.
Mackanin also reiterated what Phillies general manager Matt Klentak said just after midnight Friday about outfielder Hyun Soo Kim, who was acquired from the Orioles. He will be an extra outfielder behind Nick Williams, Aaron Altherr and Odúbel Herrera.
Kim is scheduled to join the team Sunday.
"I don't know how much [playing] time I'll be able to get for Kim," Mackanin said.
