PHILADELPHIA -- The Phillies have started to make room on the 40-man roster in preparation for a potentially eventful offseason.
They announced Friday afternoon that they outrighted infielder Emmanuel Burriss; right-handers Frank Herrmann, Dalier Hinojosa and Colton Murray; outfielder Jimmy Paredes; and left-hander Patrick Schuster to Triple-A Lehigh Valley.
The Phillies have a slew of prospects they need to protect from the Rule 5 Draft in December, which means being smart with their 40-man roster spots. The group included Top 30 prospectsNick Williams (No. 3), Dylan Cozens (6), Mark Appel (10), Andrew Knapp (11), Ricardo Pinto (15), Nick Pivetta (17), Elniery Garcia (19), Malquin Canelo (21), Carlos Tocci (22), Ben Lively (23), Jose Pujols (26) and Alberto Tirado (28).
