Phillies catching prospect sheds past injuries for breakout offensive campaign

The Phillies knew Alirio Ferrebus had the ability to grow as a productive hitter in their system. He just needed to be on the field to do so.
The 20-year-old battled a slew of injuries during his first three seasons in the organization. Now, his first healthy campaign allowed his bat to take off in 2026 and boost him up to the No. 7 prospect in the Philadelphia system in the latest Top 30 update.
Rising up from the No. 21 spot, Ferrebus broke out in a big way offensively with Single-A Clearwater. His 72 games are a career high with a .324/.375/.520 slash line while showing improved power (40-grade tool) with 11 homers and an .895 OPS. He drove in eight runs in just eight games in July and only briefly missed time in June on the injured list from a foul ball that hit him while catching.
This season is a good sign for Philadelphia that when Ferrebus is healthy, he can produce. He moved past the frustrations of a UCL injury in 2023, an ankle sprain in 2024 and a broken left hand that ended his season last August.
The Venezuelan-born catcher and first baseman signed as an international free agent in 2023. He spent the next two summers with an impressive run at the plate in the Rookie-level Dominican Summer League. Ferrebus slashed .353/.460/.549 with a 1.009 OPS across the summers before he ended 2024 with a 10-game introduction to stateside ball in the Florida Complex League.
The 2025 season marked his first year of affiliated ball where he took time to adjust and hit .236 in 69 games between the FCL and Single-A Clearwater. He stayed active last winter, hitting .279 in the Australian Baseball League, adding momentum to his return to Clearwater to begin 2026.
