Nats have high hopes for Treinen out of 'pen

KISSIMMEE, Fla. -- Nationals right-hander Blake Treinen hasn't pitched since March 6 because of a sore middle finger on his pitching hand, which has prevented him from throwing his slider, according to manager Dusty Baker. Treinen is, however, expected to pitch in Wednesday's 1:05 p.m. ET contest against the Marlins.
If Treinen makes the team, Baker sees him as one of the Nationals' setup men. But first, Treinen must show the team he can retire left-handed hitters, who hit .336 against him last year.

"He's not a starter; we have big, big plans for him," Baker said. "He certainly has the stuff [to be in the bullpen]. There's always a need for a sinkerballer."
