Pope Leo officially has a White Sox Pope Hat, and it's glorious

Pope Leo XIV has already proven he’s a real, legitimate White Sox fan, dating back to his roots as a Chicago native. He attended the 2005 World Series, met with A.J. Pierzynski to receive the final out ball from Game 1 of that Fall Classic and even wore a South Siders hat to work this year.
In the latest addition to the White Sox’ relationship with the pope, he now has some new headgear to add to his collection.
Father Tom McCarthy, a Chicago native and graduate of St. Rita of Cascia High School, presented Pope Leo XIV with a gift: a “Pope Hat” inspired by the White Sox’ smash-hit giveaway from an Aug. 11 win over the Reds.
McCarthy was in attendance for that game, receiving a check from Chicago White Sox Charities on behalf of Midwest Augustinian Province, the order to which Father Robert Prevost (Pope Leo XIV) belonged while in Chicago.
McCarthy and the pope posed for a photo once the Pope Hat was delivered. The picture made its way to the White Sox’ social media account, where the black-and-gold hat -- with a singular white stocking logo -- was on full display.
Who knows if Pope Leo XIV will don the cap. But the pope has assuredly enjoyed the ascent of the upstart White Sox, who lead the AL Central by 2 1/2 games entering Thursday’s action.
