Plans for Pirates MLB City Connect series uniform announced
Major League Baseball and Nike today announced the six participating Clubs in this year’s City Connect uniform program, including the Pittsburgh Pirates. The Pirates and the five other Clubs announced today will join the 14 Clubs that launched their City Connect uniforms in 2021 and 2022, making a total of 20 Clubs that will sport City Connect uniforms on field by season’s end.
The Pirates will take the field in their City Connect series uniforms for the first time on Tuesday, June 27, when the team takes on the San Diego Padres at PNC Park.
“Perhaps more than any other city, sports are intertwined into the fabric of Pittsburgh. Our sports teams are a part of who we are,” said Travis Williams, Pirates President. “We are excited to collaborate with Nike on the City Connect uniform to capture and celebrate this special connection between Pittsburgh and our fans.”
Launched in 2021, the Nike MLB City Connect program was created to celebrate the bond between each Club and its city. This uniform series explores the personality, values and customs that make each community and their residents unique. Nike and MLB Clubs partnered to design jerseys inspired by their cities to invigorate longtime baseball fans and invite more people into the game, expanding the future of the sport.
To complete players’ uniform designs, long-time MLB Authentic Collection partners New Era & Stance have worked in collaboration with the Clubs, MLB and Nike to develop the official on-field City Connect caps and socks
