On a short look, Robert impresses White Sox

CHICAGO -- Ever Magallanes knows Luis Robert, both the person and the player.
Magallanes, the supervisor of the White Sox Dominican Academy, had the chance to watch Robert, the 23rd-overall prospect, according to MLBPipeline.com, on a daily basis before Robert's left knee meniscus injury earlier this month.
The reports on the 19-year-old outfielder were nothing short of glowing.
"He's an awesome kid. He gets along with everybody. Fits in well," Magallanes said. "Takes instruction well. Obviously talented. But he's just a great kid.
"Aside from the rare combination of power and speed without having seen a whole lot, he's got real good instincts in the outfield defensively. He has good instincts on the basepaths. He's fearless out there, backing up fly balls to the right fielder and left fielder, he'll be right next to them after they field the ball. He plays hard. So those things kind of jump out."
Robert had a .250 average in his first 52 at-bats with one home run, four RBIs, 17 walks, 15 strikeouts and eight stolen bases for the White Sox entry in the Dominican Summer League. Robert has been out of action since July 4 after sustaining his knee injury, but Magallanes said Robert is almost 100 percent and should be back in the next week or two.
Although it has only been a limited period of on-field action, Magallanes sees that "it" and "star" factor in the right-handed-hitting center fielder.
"Absolutely. Without question," Magallanes said. "If it all comes together, he's going to be pretty special."
Clippard joins bullpen mix
White Sox manager Rick Renteria pointed to Tyler Clippard as his new closer with David Robertson and Tommy Kahnle joining Todd Frazier in the seven-player deal with the Yankees late Tuesday. Renteria said Clippard also could be used in other high-leverage game situations outside of the ninth.
"It has been [wild]. Obviously, a lot of emotions and stuff when you're with some guys as long as I was over there," said Clippard of the trade. "It was a family and so it's tough to leave those guys but it's the nature of the business.
"I've had some time to kind of take it all in, take a flight this morning. Kind of getting acclimated with some of the guys here. I'm liking the energy and liking the guys and time to go to work."
Davidson has praise for Frazier
Matt Davidson, who will get more playing time at third base over the final 2 1/2 months of the season, praised Frazier for his positive influence.
"I learned a lot from him," Davidson said. "He kind of took me under his wing and showed me a lot of what to do, just thinking-wise and we hung out inside the clubhouse and outside. I'm going to miss him but we said our goodbyes and we're going to run into each other down the road."
