Rainiel Rodriguez just keeps mashing.
The Cardinals' No. 1 prospect, and MLB's No. 12 overall per MLB Pipeline, clubbed a homer for the second straight game on Friday to give him five dingers in his past seven games at Double-A Springfield.
The homer was one of the only highlights for Springfield in its 6-2 loss to San Antonio at Nelson Wolff Stadium, but it continued the 19-year-old's hot stretch since the All-Star break. The catcher is hitting .338 with six homers and a 1.088 OPS in 16 games since the second half began on July 17.
For the season, Rodriguez is hitting .292 with 18 homers and a .900 OPS across High-A and Double-A. But since his promotion in mid-May, he's hitting .283 with 14 homers and an .877 OPS.
Hitting aside, Rodriguez was behind the plate for Tanner Franklin's Double-A debut on Friday. The Cardinals' No. 5 prospect recorded seven strikeouts in 4 2/3 innings while allowing two runs on five hits.
