Grichuk, Martinez power Cards vs. Mets

JUPITER, Fla. -- Randal Grichuk went 2-for-2 with a double and home run to lead the Cardinals to a 6-1 win over the Mets on Wednesday at Roger Dean Stadium. Grichuk drove in four runs and scored another in the victory.
Carlos Martínez turned in a good effort as the Cards' starter, working three innings of one-hit ball. He walked one and struck out one. The Cards recorded a pair of double plays behind him to keep the right-hander out of trouble. In his three-inning stint, Martinez faced the minimum.
Mets starter Marcos Molina was knocked out of the box with one out in the third inning. The right-hander yielded four hits and walked a batter before exiting with a 1-0 deficit. But the Cards piled on lefty reliever Sean Gilmartin, using a two-out error by Mets third baseman T.J. Rivera to score two more runs.
Grichuk then hit the next pitch over the left-field fence for a three-run homer, increasing the lead to 6-0.
"I saw the ball good," Grichuk said of his home run swing. "This ballpark does present a different backdrop [than in St. Louis]. But I saw it and had a good swing on it."
Mets outfielder Michael Conforto finished 2-for-3 with two singles, including one to the opposite field, upping his Grapefruit League average to .538 in five games.
After retiring the first two batters in the 8th, Cardinals right-hander Luke Weaver exited the game with lower back spasms.
Third baseman Phillip Evans got the Mets on the board with a solo homer in the 9th inning.
