All-Star Ranger Suarez (groin strain) placed on 15-day IL

The Boston Red Sox today placed left-handed pitcher Ranger Suarez on the 15-day injured list (retroactive to July 6) with a left groin strain. To fill his spot, Boston recalled infielder Brett Harris from Triple-A Worcester. Harris will wear number 25.

Suarez, 30, has posted a 3.15 ERA (32 ER/91.1 IP) with a 1.16 WHIP, .232 opponent batting average (80-for-345), and 97 strikeouts in 17 starts this season for Boston. The left-hander was selected to represent the American League at the 2026 MLB All-Star Game, his second career selection, also having been named a National League All-Star in 2024 with the Philadelphia Phillies. Signed by Philadelphia as an international free agent in April 2012, the Venezuela native has gone 57-40 with a 3.35 ERA (318 ER/853.1 IP) and 802 strikeouts in 204 career Major League games (136 starts) with the Phillies (2018-25) and Red Sox (2026).

Harris, 28, was acquired in a trade with the Athletics on July 1, and has hit .317 (53-for-167) with 35 runs scored, 13 doubles, one triple, six home runs, 40 RBI, 25 walks, and a .936 OPS in 42 Triple-A games between Las Vegas (37 games) and Worcester (five). The right-handed hitter has made 21 starts at third base, 12 at first base, six at second base, and three as the designated hitter between the two clubs. He also played in five Major League games this year for the Athletics, making one start at third base. Originally selected by the Athletics in the seventh round of the 2021 First-Year Player Draft, the Illinois native has batted .194 (35-for-180) with three home runs and 17 RBI in 73 career Major League games, all with the Athletics (2024-26).
