Rangers reach deals with Gallo, Kiner-Falefa

The Rangers reached deals with a pair of Gold Glove Award-winning defenders Friday by signing outfielder Joey Gallo and infielder Isiah Kiner-Falefa to one-year deals to avoid arbitration. Gallo will earn $6.2 million this year and Kiner-Falefa $2 million, according to a source.

The club has not confirmed the contract figures.

Gallo hit .181/.301/.378 with 10 homers and 26 RBIs in 57 games last season, leading the club in walks (29) and extra-base hits (18). He won his first career Gold Glove Award in right field with 12 runs saved, according to Baseball Info Solutions, which were the second-most by any player at any position.

Kiner-Falefa was selected as the Rangers’ 2020 Player of the Year by the Dallas-Fort Worth chapter of the Baseball Writers’ Association of America after hitting .280 and leading the club in hits (59), runs (28) and total bases (78). Kiner-Falefa had 11 defensive runs saved in '20 and won an American League Gold Glove Award at third base, though the Rangers are shifting him to shortstop this season.
