Rangers rally for walk-off after Martinez struggles

SURPRISE, Ariz. -- Jared Hoying lined a single in the bottom of the ninth to drive home the winning run and give the Rangers a 12-11 victory over the Indians.
The Rangers trailed, 10-7, in the bottom of the seventh. But Jason Martinson hit a game-tying three-run home run in the seventh and a go-ahead double in the eighth. The Indians then tied it in the top of the ninth on a home run by Eric Stamets before Hoying won it in the bottom of the inning.

Outfielder Brandon Guyer and catcher Yan Gomes combined for five hits at top of the Indians lineup. Guyer was 2-for-3 with two runs scored and two RBIs and is hitting .308 in the Cactus League. Gomes was 3-for-4, including his second home run of the spring, and is now hitting .409 for the spring. He and Richie Shaffer went back-to-back off Rangers reliever Brady Dragmire in the seventh.
Gomes continues to show he has made a strong comeback this spring after getting limited action in the second half of the 2016 season while dealing with a separated right shoulder.
Rangers starter Nick Martinez was knocked out in the third inning, dealing another blow to his chances of being in the rotation. He allowed seven runs on nine hits and a walk with two strikeouts. He now has a 16.20 ERA for the spring.
"I was getting ahead for the most part," Martinez said. "But my two-strike pitcher weren't there. I was leaving the ball up. I've got to do a better job putting guys away."

Indians starter Trevor Bauer went 4 2/3 innings and allowed five runs, four earned, on seven hits. He did not walk a batter, struck out five and finished with 88 pitches. He has allowed eight runs over 8 2/3 innings in his last two starts after six innings without allowing an earned run in his first two starts.
Indians Up Next: Reliever Zach McAllister is scheduled to start and work three innings for the Indians in 4:05 p.m. ET Cactus League clash with the A's on Thursday at Goodyear Ballpark. Dan Otero is also slated to pitch, along with bullpen candidates Kyle Crockett, Steve Delabar, James Russell, Hoby Milner and Tyler Olson.
Rangers up next:Mike Napoli leads the Rangers travel squad that will play two games against the Indians in San Antonio for Big League Weekend. Right-hander A.J. Griffin pitches against the Indians at 7 p.m. (CT) on Friday at the Alamodome. The Rangers will also have a squad playing the Angels in Surprise at 3:05 p.m. (CT) Friday with right-hander Mike Hauschild on the mound.
