Angels make two front office hires (source)
ANAHEIM -- The Angels are continuing to build their front office under new general manager Perry Minasian, as the club hired Ray Montgomery from the Royals, a source confirmed to MLB.com on Friday. Additionally, the Angels are set to hire Dodgers international crosschecker Brian Parker, according to MLB.com's Jim Callis.
The Angels have not officially announced either hire.
Montgomery was a vice president and special assistant to the general manager in Kansas City and has a background in scouting. Montgomery, 51, also played parts of three seasons in the Majors with the Astros from 1996-98, batting .241 in 47 games as an outfielder and pinch-hitter.
He’s the latest notable hire for the Angels, who also hired three former Braves front office members who worked with Minasian in Atlanta. Alex Tamin is the club's new assistant general manager, Dominic Chiti is a special assistant and Rick Williams is a scout.
The Angels also hired Gene Watson as a special advisor on Dec. 12. Watson was a candidate for the GM job that went to Minasian. He spent 14 seasons with the Royals, including the last three as director of pro scouting and assistant to the GM. He won a World Series ring with the organization in 2015.
Parker, meanwhile, has history with Minasian, as they both worked in Toronto's front office from 2012-16. Parker served as the Blue Jays scouting director starting in ‘12, before joining the Dodgers as an international crosschecker in ‘17. It’s unclear what his official role will be with the Angels but he’s expected to remain in a scouting capacity.
