NEW YORK -- The Rays have dubbed the weekend of July 11-12 “Longo’s Legacy Weekend,” and they are breaking out all the stops to celebrate the greatest player in franchise history.
As previously announced, the team will induct longtime third baseman Evan Longoria into the Rays Hall of Fame during a ceremony beginning at 4 p.m. on Saturday, July 11, before officially retiring his No. 3 jersey on Sunday, July 12.
The club revealed more details on Friday night, featuring more ways they intend to celebrate Longoria’s decorated career with the Rays, and launched a “Longo’s Legacy Weekend” website with more information at RaysBaseball.com/Longo.
One of the highlights will be a pair of performances by the band Tantric, which performed Longoria’s iconic walk-up song, “Down and Out.” The band will play the song live at Tropicana Field the day Longoria’s No. 3 is retired, then they will play a special postgame concert at Ferg’s Sports Bar & Grill beginning at 5 p.m. on July 12, after the Rays’ game against the Mariners.
There are a pair of Longoria-themed giveaways scheduled for the weekend. On July 11, the first 10,000 fans in attendance will receive a Longoria snapback hat. On July 12, the first 10,000 fans will get a Longoria bobblecard.
There will be several other Longoria-inspired activities around Tropicana Field throughout the weekend. Inside Gate 1, there will be chalk art honoring the franchise icon, and there will be a pop-up Floyd’s 99 Barbershop offering Longo cuts like the Draft Day, the Longo-Hawk and the Big #3. Additionally, there will be exclusive Longoria-themed merchandise available at the Bay Republic Team Store inside the Trop.

Fans who want to relive Longoria’s many highlights can do so in an interactive way on the Longo’s Legacy Weekend site, which includes a four-round bracket challenge to pick his best moment.
Anyone attending those games will have a chance to snag a special piece of history, too, as specially branded Longo’s Legacy Weekend baseballs will be used throughout the weekend.
Longoria is also scheduled to spend a little time giving back during his weekend of recognition, as he will participate in a closed community event reading books to children at a local library as part of the “Reading with the Rays” program he participated in frequently as a player.
“Evan Longoria’s contributions on and off the field were transformative for the Tampa Bay Rays franchise. He delivered countless memorable moments for our fans and set a standard for professionalism that has impacted countless players in our organization,” Rays president of baseball operations Erik Neander said in a statement. “His legacy in Tampa Bay endures to this day. He helped establish a winning culture and left an indelible mark on this franchise and community. We couldn’t be prouder to induct Evan into the Rays Hall of Fame.”
