ST. PETERSBURG -- Prior to Saturday's game, the Rays reinstated right-hander Erasmo Ramírez from the paternity list and designated left-hander Justin Marks for assignment. The move marked the sixth consecutive day the Rays have made a roster move.
Ramirez and his girlfriend had a baby girl, whom they named Addison Marie.
"Good for Erasmo, we're happy for him," Rays manager Kevin Cash said. "New dad, to be able to come back here and help us, because we're a better team when he's in our bullpen, or wherever. So he'll come in and he's fairly fresh, and he'll provide some length if needed, or come in for an inning."
Marks arrived Friday and pitched in Friday night's game, allowing a home run to Justin Smoak, the first batter he faced.
"Marksy, he's a guy that we saw last year and we saw briefly this year, don't put too much emphasis on his outing last night," Cash said. "...You know, two hours of sleep, traveling and all that mess. But a guy, if he clears [waivers] we would expect that he could help us at some point."
