Longo, Cobb among AL Gold Glove finalists

ST. PETERSBURG -- Two Rays have been nominated to be recipients of Gold Gloves for the 2017 season: Evan Longoria and Alex Cobb received nominations at third base and pitcher, respectively.
Award winners will be announced by Rawlings on ESPN on Nov. 7 at 9 p.m. ET.

If Longoria were to win, he would earn his third career Gold Glove after winning the award in 2009 and '10.
Longoria started 142 games at third base in 2017 and made 12 errors in 375 chances for a fielding percentage of .968. He had 267 assists and 96 putouts.
Longoria is pitted against Baltimore's Manny Machado and Cleveland's José Ramírez.
Cobb has not won the award, but the right-hander would become the second Rays pitcher to do so. Jeremy Hellickson won the award in 2012 recognizing him as the American League's best fielding pitcher.
The right-hander had 44 chances and had 15 putouts, 26 assists, and made three errors for a .932 fielding percentage.

Cobb's competition for the award includes Boston's Chris Sale and Toronto's Marcus Stroman.
Other than Longoria and Hellickson, past Rays Gold Glove winners include: Carlos Pena at first base (2008), Carl Crawford in left field (2010) and Kevin Kiermaier in center field (2015 and 2016).
Kiermaier did not have a chance to win his third consecutive AL Gold Glove Award since he did not meet the minimum requirement of defensive innings played. He missed significant time during the 2017 season due to a right hip injury.
This year's Gold Glove Awards represent just one way the game's top performers will be recognized. Voting is underway now for the Esurance MLB Awards, which annually honor MLB's greatest achievements as part of an industry-wide balloting process.
