Saturday's Rays-Red Sox game postponed; split DH in July
BOSTON -- The Red Sox and Rays postponed Saturday’s game roughly 15 minutes before the scheduled 4:10 p.m. ET start time due to significant rainfall in the Fenway area expected to continue throughout the afternoon and evening.
The game will be made up on July 17 at 1:35 p.m. as part of a split doubleheader. That will be the first contest for both teams coming out of the All-Star break.
Tickets for Saturday’s game will be good for the 1:35 game on July 17. The regularly scheduled game that day remains at 7:10.
Lefty Payton Tolle, coming off the best start of his career (seven innings, one hit, no earned runs) in Detroit on Monday, will pitch Sunday’s finale for the Red Sox in what will now be a three-game series against the Rays.
Right-hander Nick Martinez, Tampa Bay’s best pitcher to this point in the season, counters for the Rays in what should be a compelling matchup on Mother’s Day. Drew Rasmussen, who had been scheduled to start for the Rays on Sunday, will be pushed to Monday in Toronto.
The 25-13 Rays took the opener of the series on Thursday night with an 8-4 victory. The Red Sox (17-22) responded with a 2-0 win to snap Tampa Bay’s seven-game winning streak on Friday, setting up Sunday’s rubber match.
