Rays-Royals postponed; doubleheader today

KANSAS CITY -- The Royals-Rays game on Tuesday was postponed because of rain. The two teams will play a straight doubleheader on Wednesday starting at 12:15 p.m. CT at Kauffman Stadium with the second game starting 45 minutes after the completion of the first game.

The Royals said they will call up right-hander Glenn Sparkman from Triple-A Omaha as the 26th man to start one of the games. Right-hander Jakob Junis (2-2, 5.57 ERA), the scheduled starter for Tuesday, will start the other game of the doubleheader.

The Royals had not yet decided which game either Sparkman or Junis will start. Kansas City then will push left-hander Danny Duffy back to start Thursday’s series finale.

For the Rays, Ryne Stanek (0-0, 1.20 ERA) will start the first game as an opener, and reigning American League Cy Young Award winner Blake Snell (2-2, 2.54) will start the second game. Snell was originally scheduled to pitch on Tuesday.

Fans who had tickets for the game originally scheduled for 7:15 p.m. on Wednesday are able to attend both games with their original May 1 ticket. Tickets for the Tuesday game are not valid for entry for the Wednesday doubleheader. All fans who had tickets for the Tuesday game may exchange their ticket for any game during the 2019 regular season. Qualifying ticket purchasers for the originally scheduled Wednesday game at 7:15 p.m. who are unable to attend due to the time change will be emailed a ticket voucher for a future 2019 regular season game.
