Vazquez shows off surgically repaired throwing arm

ATLANTA -- Christian Vazquez now declares that his cannon arm is 100 percent. It sure played that way when he fired a laser to nail Jace Peterson for a key out in the bottom of the fifth inning of a 1-0 Red Sox victory over the Braves on Monday night.
As Xander Bogaerts swiped the tag and Peterson ran back to the dugout, Vazquez clapped his hands exuberantly into his glove and then clasped them over his head.
He could barely contain his excitement, and you can understand why. This marked the first runner Vazquez has thrown out on a stolen-base attempt since 2014. Vazquez had no chances to throw anyone out last year, as he spent the entire season rehabbing from Tommy John surgery.
Peterson was just the second runner to run on him in seven games.
"You saw me excited, right? It was an exciting moment. It was a long time until this moment," said Vazquez, who fired an 80.1-mph throw to get the out, according to Statcast™.
Vazquez's comeback has been important to the Red Sox. Since returning from his short Minor League rehab assignment at Triple-A Pawtucket, Vazquez has looked in charge behind the plate.
"The more I'm playing, I'm getting stronger and stronger. I feel good," Vazquez said.
