Kimbrel's left knee surgery a success

Craig Kimbrel has undergone successful surgery to repair a medial meniscus tear in his left knee, the Red Sox announced on Monday.
Head team orthopedist Dr. Peter Asnis performed the surgery at Massachusetts General Hospital in Boston, and a full recovery is expected. The right-handed closer, who was placed on the 15-day disabled list on Saturday for the first time in his career, is expected to miss three to six weeks.
On Tuesday, Kimbrel was named to his fifth All-Star team in the last six years after picking up 17 saves with a 3.55 ERA through the first half of the season, but he'll miss the festivities in San Diego due to his latest setback.
Red Sox manager John Farrell said Koji Uehara will take over Kimbrel's duties as closer until the incumbent returns, though the team took immediate action to account for Kimbrel's absence in acquiring D-backs closer Brad Ziegler on Saturday for two prospects: right-hander Jose Almonte and infielder Luis Alejandro Basabe.
Ziegler pitched a scoreless ninth inning in Boston's 4-0 win over Tampa Bay on Sunday. He has 18 saves in 20 tries and a 2.75 ERA. Uehara has given up 18 earned runs in 33 2/3 innings for a 4.81 ERA, and he's 2-3 with four saves.
