BOSTON -- Red Sox second baseman Eduardo Núñez left Friday night's 16-3 loss to the Orioles at Fenway Park in the second inning with a sprained left wrist and left thumb.
The injury occurred when an errant throw to second base by Red Sox catcher Sandy León caused Nunez to fall awkwardly on his left wrist, getting it tangled with Manny Machado's left arm.
X-rays were negative, and based on exams done after the game, Red Sox manager John Farrell said no MRI will be needed.

"We are hopeful as he goes through further exams tonight," Farrell said. "We'll see how he is [Saturday]."
Nunez has been a spark plug since being traded to the Red Sox. He's hitting .336 with six home runs and 20 RBIs in 24 games.
