Porcello tied for MLB lead in wins with 15

BOSTON -- Fenway Park sure has become a happy place for Rick Porcello.
The Red Sox right-hander dominated through eight innings on Tuesday against the Yankees in a 5-3 victory to stay a perfect 11-0 at home.
After a West Coast road trip in which the team finished 5-6, the Red Sox were in need of a win to start off a six-game homestand. Porcello, who allowed two runs on seven hits, is now 7-1 when pitching after the team loses.
"You are aware of the situation you are in, especially in August and September to drop too many games in a row isn't good," Porcello said. "We know we have to play with urgency. I don't try to let that affect me, but we all know it."
Porcello also picked up his 100th career win. He's the fourth active pitcher to earn 100 wins prior to his 28th birthday. The other three are Clayton Kershaw, Félix Hernández and CC Sabathia.
The only trouble Porcello got into came early in the game. Two doubles in the second inning by Starlin Castro and Chase Headley allowed a run to score, before Brett Gardner led off the third with a double and later scored on a single by Brian McCann.
Red Sox manager John Farrell thought that Porcello's curveball and changeup were especially effective.
"Yeah, he was very strong once again. Like many of his starts this season, he gets to that middle portion of the ballgame and really begins to settle in." Farrell said. "Just an outstanding job on his part. Two opportunities for shutdown innings he continues to execute them very well."
Porcello has been a model of consistency on his way to 15 wins, which is tied for the Major League lead. He's tossed at least five innings in his last 31 starts, a streak that dates back to Aug. 26, 2015. He also leads the American League with 20 starts of at least six innings.
"It was a big win for us," Porcello said. "We came off of a long, tough road trip and needed to start the homestand off the right way."
