BOSTON -- Leading off the top of the second inning in Thursday's series finale at Fenway Park, with the Twins leading the Red Sox, 1-0, Eduardo Escobar hit a flare into shallow right field, and it appeared the ball would drop in -- until Red Sox outfielder Mookie Betts came in and made a diving play to rob the Twins' third baseman of a hit.
The Red Sox's right fielder got on his horse immediately, covering 69 feet in 4.1 seconds, according to Statcast™, before making the spectacular sliding catch.
Betts' catch had a 35-percent catch probability, and it wound up as another four-star catch for the All-Star, his 13th such grab this season, one shy of Major League leader Byron Buxton of the Twins. Two innings later, Betts tallied his 13th home run of the season, a towering shot over the Green Monster off Twins starter Kyle Gibson.
