As Rick Porcello gets set to start Game 1 of the American League Division Series for the Red Sox against the Indians (Thursday on TBS, 8 p.m. ET), the 22-game winner has been named the AL Pitcher of the Month for September.
Porcello went 4-1 with a 2.70 ERA in six September starts. The right-hander struck out 37 and walked just four in 43 1/3 innings pitched, cementing his standing as a leading AL Cy Young Award contender.
The award is Porcello's first Pitcher of the Month honor. He won the AL Rookie of the Month Award in May 2009.
