Reds promote Herrera from Triple-A

The Reds purchased the contract of infielder Dilson Herrera from Triple-A Louisville ahead of Friday's series opener at Wrigley Field. Herrera is expected to play in his first Major League game since 2015.
The transaction was part of corresponding roster moves stemming from the club's trade with the Dodgers earlier this week, and left-hander Cody Reed being optioned back to Louisville on Thursday after a one-day callup.
Herrera, 24, last played for the Mets three seasons ago. This season, he batted .297/.367/.465 with seven homers and 27 RBIs over 50 games with Louisville after competing for a bench role this spring with Cincinnati as a non-roster invitee. However, he had not fully recovered from the right shoulder surgery he underwent last August.
In addition to having Herrera play the corner-infield spots this spring, the Reds also experimented with him in left field.
Herrera was originally signed by the Pirates out of Colombia in 2010, and the Reds acquired him from the Mets six years later as part of a trade involving Jay Bruce.
