MLB Awards the 2028 All-Star Game Presented by Mastercard to the San Francisco Giants
SAN FRANCISCO – Commissioner of Baseball Robert D. Manfred, Jr. announced today that Major League Baseball has awarded the 2028 All-Star Game presented by Mastercard and accompanying All-Star Week events to the San Francisco Giants. The 2028 All-Star Game will be Baseball’s 98th Midsummer Classic. The Giants will mark the occasion during tonight’s home game against the Colorado Rockies.

Oracle Park, which staged the 2007 All-Star Game, will become the eighth active ballpark to host the Midsummer Classic multiple times, joining Fenway Park (1946, 1961, 1999); Wrigley Field (1947, 1962, 1990); Angel Stadium (1967, 1989, 2010); Dodger Stadium (1980, 2022); Progressive Field (1997, 2019); Coors Field (1998, 2021); and T-Mobile Park (2001, 2023). This marks the fourth time that the Giants will host the Midsummer Classic:
Candlestick Park hosted the first All-Star Game of the 1961 season, with the 3-4-5 slots of the victorious National League lineup being held by Giants legends Willie Mays and Orlando Cepeda along with Roberto Clemente, while Roger Maris and Mickey Mantle started for the American League during their historic single-season home run record chase.
Candlestick welcomed the 1984 Midsummer Classic, which showcased home runs by MVP Gary Carter and George Brett, who were two of the 10 Hall of Famers in the starting lineups. Reigning back-to-back National League Most Valuable Player Dale Murphy homered, singled and walked in the NL win.
When Oracle Park, which opened for the 2000 season, hosted the 2007 Midsummer Classic, Ichiro Suzuki hit the first inside-the-park home run in All-Star history en route to Ted Williams All-Star Game MVP honors. It was the 14th and final All-Star Game in the career of Giants legend Barry Bonds, whose godfather, fellow franchise icon and 24-time All-Star Willie Mays, was honored during the pregame ceremony.
The 2027 All-Star Game presented by Mastercard in Chicago is slated for Tuesday, July 13th at Wrigley Field, the National League’s oldest ballpark. The 97th All-Star Game will mark the fourth time the Cubs have hosted the Midsummer Classic at Wrigley Field, joining 1947, 1962 (2nd) and 1990. Wrigley Field, which opened its gates in 1914, will become the only active ballpark, and just the third ever, to host four All-Star Games along with Municipal Stadium in Cleveland (1935, 1954, 1963, 1981) and Yankee Stadium in New York (1939, 1960-2, 1977, 2008).
