Dodgers reportedly inquired about Greinke

Although trade talks did not go far, the Dodgers showed interest in reacquiring right-hander Zack Greinke from the D-backs before the end of August, MLB Network insider Ken Rosenthal reported on Wednesday night.
Greinke became available to any club in a trade after clearing waivers earlier in the month, Rosenthal reported. While a trade technically still could occur, the Dodgers would have needed to land Greinke by 11:59 p.m. ET on Wednesday for him to be eligible for their postseason roster.
Greinke was a two-time All-Star in his three seasons with Los Angeles, going 51-15 with a 2.30 ERA over 92 regular-season starts. The 32-year-old then left as a free agent last winter, spurning the Dodgers to sign a six-year, $206.5 million deal with Arizona, which runs through 2021.
But while the Dodgers lead the National League West without Greinke, the D-backs have gone 56-77 while Greinke has posted a 4.17 ERA in 22 starts and spent time on the disabled list. However, the two teams still could revisit discussions in the offseason, according to Rosenthal.
