Guardians Sign RHP Shawn Armstrong
CLEVELAND, OH – The Cleveland Guardians announced the following transactions relative to the 2026 Major League 40-man roster:
Signed free agent RHP Shawn Armstrong to a 2026 Major League contract with a mutual option (club and player) for the 2027 season.
Designated LHP Justin Bruihl for assignment.
Armstrong, 35, established career-highs in appearances (71), innings (74.0), saves (9) and strikeouts (74) for the Texas Rangers in 2025, posting a 4-3 record with 9 saves and a 2.31 ERA (19 ER/74.0 IP) in 71 games/2 starts. His 2.19 ERA (17 ER/70.0 IP) in 69 relief outings ranked tied for fifth among qualified AL relievers. He recorded a 1.13 ERA and an AL-low 0.69 WHIP in the second half (4 ER/32.0 IP/31 games). Armstrong boasted the second-best WHIP (0.81) in the Majors and third-lowest average against (.157) among pitchers who worked 50.0-or-more innings.

The Vanceboro, NC native was Cleveland’s 18th round selection in the 2011 MLB Draft out of East Carolina University, appearing in 39 games with Cleveland from 2015-17 before being acquired by Seattle in December 2017. He has compiled a career record of 15-11 with 17 saves and a 3.82 ERA in 370 games/18 starts (421.1IP, 379H, 179ER, 434SO) with eight teams over his 11-year career.
