Walk-off grand slam to sweep?! Sasaki adds to legend at Stanford
Stanford’s Rintaro Sasaki has forged a unique path to this point. On Sunday, he only further added to his legend.
Sasaki hit a walk-off grand slam to secure a Stanford sweep over No. 8 Florida State, a remarkable turn of events for a Stanford club that entered the series with an 18-19 record.
Sasaki made global headlines in 2024 when he committed to Stanford. Widely expected to be one of the top picks in the 2024 NPB (Nippon Professional Baseball) Draft, Sasaki made the unorthodox choice of opting to come to America for college instead. Before coming stateside, Sasaki was a student at Hanamaki Higashi High School, the alma mater of Shohei Ohtani and Yusei Kikuchi.
