DENVER -- New leadership and the decision to promote Warren Schaeffer from interim to full-time manager signal a new era for the Rockies.

No one is expecting immediate contention after a club-record seven straight losing seasons, including last year’s 43-119 record, but improvement has to start somewhere. Spring Training is as good a place as any.
