SAN FRANCISCO -- Colorado second baseman DJ LeMahieu and outfielder Carlos González continued to make progress in their respective returns from injury on Wednesday.
LeMahieu, who strained his right groin trying to beat out a ground ball on Tuesday night, was held out of Wednesday's lineup as expected. Rockies manager Bud Black said LeMahieu felt improvement, and that it doesn't seem as severe as previous groin strains LeMahieu has suffered in his career. The hope is to have him back in the lineup for this weekend's series at Arizona.
"DJ feels a little better," Black said. "Right now, it doesn't look like a disabled list [move] for him."
Wednesday marked the sixth day of Gonzalez's stint on the 10-day DL with a right shoulder strain. Swinging has been the major problem for Gonzalez as he tries to regain his strength, but he made some progress on Wednesday.
"CarGo is swinging in the cage," Black said. "From what I saw today, it's not 100 percent bat speed, but it's with nice intent. He's making some aggressive swings. He's getting better."
Worth noting
• Black announced that Tyler Chatwood will start for the Rockies on Saturday in Arizona while Germán Márquez has tentatively been penciled in as Sunday's starter, though Black said it could change.
