DENVER -- Rockies right-handed pitcher Germán Márquez, who led Major League rookies in quality starts and tied for the lead in wins, was named to the Topps MLB All-Star Rookie Team on Tuesday, as announced on MLB Network.
Marquez, 22, went 11-7 with a 4.39 ERA in 29 starts and 162 innings. He finished with 14 quality starts (six or more innings pitched, three or fewer earned runs allowed) to become the second straight Rockies pitcher to lead Major League rookies in that category. Jon Gray had 16 in 2016.

Marquez's wins tied him with Rockies lefty teammate Kyle Freeland. In fact, another Rockies rookie, Antonio Senzatela, was one back with 10 wins.
Obtained in a trade with the Rays before the 2016 season, Marquez made the Rockies this year out of Spring Training, but he didn't make an appearance before being sent down to Triple-A Albuquerque on April 9. He was recalled on April 25 and stayed in the big leagues for the remainder of the season. Marquez set a club rookie record by making six straight quality starts from July 7 to Aug. 8.

Also, by striking out nine Padres on July 17, nine Pirates on July 22 and 10 Nationals on July 29 -- all victories as part of a personal four-game win streak and a seven-game unbeaten streak -- Marquez became the first Major League rookie to fan at least nine in three straight games since the Reds' Raisel Iglesias in 2015.
Topps has selected All-Star Rookie Teams since 1959. The 2017 team consists of one Major Leaguer at each fielding position, plus one right-handed starter, one lefty starter and one reliever.
