LOS ANGELES – Rockies No. 16 prospect and 2022 top Draft pick Gabriel Hughes will make his first Major League start a night earlier than originally planned, taking the hill Wednesday at Dodger Stadium for Colorado's series finale in L.A.
The rotation originally lined up for Hughes to start Thursday’s opener in San Francisco. Hughes, called up last week from Triple-A Albuquerque, debuted on Friday by pitching three scoreless innings and earning a save against the Giants. It was expected that Hughes would get a start in the Giants series, since veteran righty Tomoyuki Sugano will be on the injured list through the All-Star break because of back spasms.
With Hughes pitching on Wednesday, righty Ryan Feltner (3-2, 4.27 ERA) will have another start against the Giants. Feltner is coming off six innings and nine strikeouts in a 15-3 victory over San Francisco last Friday – the same game in which Hughes made his debut.
