Royals unveil new City Connects, with hidden nod to Beatles
KANSAS CITY -- Intertwining their past with the present and future and showcasing the connection with Kansas City as the nation’s heartland, the Royals unveiled their new City Connect uniforms on Thursday and their plans to debut them this weekend.
Featuring a fucshia gradient into blue, the uniform’s color treatment is a nod to the tones of a Midwestern summer sunset and the blue of water flowing through Kansas City’s more than 200 fountains.
Aptly named the Forever Fountains uniform, the City Connects celebrate Kansas City’s official City of Fountains identity, first adopted by City Hall in 1991.
The uniform’s “R” logo draws inspiration from the Royals' original 1969 mark, blending the roots of the franchise with modern tradition. The crown on top of the R, as well as on the cap, is also a nod to previous logos but celebrates a new chapter in Royals history.
The jersey numbers are in the same font as the official logo of Kansas City, further connecting the organization to the city it has called home since its inception in 1969. There’s a white line around two vertical stripes on the armbands of the jersey, symbolizing the Royals’ and Kansas City’s unique position along the state lines between Missouri and Kansas.
And the heart on one of the arm sleeves reflects the Royals’ and Kansas City’s role as the nation’s heartland -- a name earned “not just for our location but also for the character of our people and our unique brand of KC pride,” according to the team.
Inside the collar of each jersey top are the words HEY HEY HEY HEY, another nod to the past and present. In 1964, The Beatles famously covered “Kansas City/Hey-Hey-Hey-Hey” at Municipal Stadium. Now, the team plays this song after the final out of every Royals win at Kauffman Stadium.
The Royals will debut their City Connects on Friday night at Kauffman Stadium against the White Sox, and they’ll wear them the rest of the weekend to celebrate the launch. After this weekend, the Royals will wear the new uniforms for every Friday home game this season, just like they did with their previous version.
And the new design will be part of promotions all season long, beginning with Friday’s City Connect giveaway for the first 10,000 fans. There will be some bobblehead giveaways featuring the new uniforms, a City Connect beach towel on June 12, a scarf on June 19 -- during the World Cup soccer games held in Kansas City this summer -- and a crossbody bag on Aug. 21.
The Royals Team Store is headquarters for 2026 City Connect gear, with a wide selection of Royals jerseys, hats and wearables. The store is located at Kauffman Stadium near the CommunityAmerica Gate C entrance.
