DETROIT -- Royals All-Star catcher Salvador Perez left Tuesday's 3-1 win over the Tigers at Comerica Park in the fifth inning and was replaced by Drew Butera.
The Royals announced that Perez had suffered right rib-cage tightness and that he was removed for precautionary reasons.
Perez said after the game the injury wasn't serious.
"I'll be good," he said. "I think I can catch tomorrow."
Perez had singled in the top of the fourth inning and advanced to second on a sacrifice fly by Mike Moustakas that scored Eric Hosmer. Perez then caught the fourth inning before being replaced to start the bottom of the fifth.
Perez said he felt the tightness during the at-bat.
"It's the same thing I've had earlier this season, just on the other side," he said.
