Much better: Davis rebounds for 22nd save

KANSAS CITY -- There was nothing Hollywood to it.
Royals closer Wade Davis said that while he wanted to return to the mound a night after blowing a save in a loss to Detroit on Friday, he wasn't pleading with his manager for a chance at redemption on Saturday night.
"I wanted to pitch," Davis said. "But I would have been fine if we scored 10 or 12. I definitely wanted to get back out no matter when it was, to get some outs and get my feet underneath me."
Davis got his chance Saturday and recorded the final two outs, securing a 5-2 win over the Tigers for his 22nd save.
Davis wasn't pleased after Friday night's game but insisted there were no pregame pleas with manager Ned Yost or the coaching staff about Saturday's game.
"Everybody is pitching so well [in the bullpen], I don't think there was any like, 'Give me the ball,'" Davis said. "It's not quite the atmosphere that I think some people think it is sometimes. It's a very relaxed, confident group of guys down there.
"Really, it's not like a situation where I felt like I needed to say, 'Give me the ball tonight.' I'm confident everybody in that bullpen would go out and get the job done."
A hit batter, a double and a two-run single on a ground ball cost Davis on Friday night.
This time Davis struck out Victor Martinez and J.D. Martinez to end it.
"I felt pretty much the same," Davis said, shrugging his shoulders. "Even the command was similar, just better results."
Yost had indicated the Royals were somewhat concerned about using Davis on back-to-back nights -- Davis just returned from the disabled list Friday and hadn't pitched back to back at all during his rehab.
But once Brooks Pounders served up a leadoff home run and a one-out single in the ninth, Yost opted to secure the win with Davis.
"We asked him how he felt and he said he felt fine," Yost said. "We said before the game, 'If we're in a situation if we have to use you to win a game, we will. But if we get to the ninth inning and we haven't used [Kelvin] Herrera, we will use Herrera and you'll be ready [Sunday].' But we had to use him."
