The Twins recalled former No. 1 overall pick Royce Lewis from Triple-A St. Paul. In a corresponding move, outfielder James Outman was designated for assignment.
The 27-year-old Lewis was batting just .163 with a .540 OPS through 31 games this season in the Majors before his demotion on May 19. In the Minor Leagues, Lewis moved from the hot corner to both first and second base and refound his power stroke.
Lewis hit .333 with an absurd 1.303 OPS in 67 plate appearances with St. Paul. He tallied 10 home runs and limited his strikeouts to 13.
Outman played sparingly as a defensive replacement in the late innings. In 64 at-bats over 49 games, he hit .156 and stole four bases. Minnesota acquired Outman from the Dodgers at last season’s Trade Deadline for right-hander Brock Stewart.
