FORT MYERS, Fla. -- Twins third baseman Royce Lewis was scratched from the team’s Thursday game against the Pirates due to what the team is calling “tightness on his right side.”

Lewis made the trip from Fort Myers to Bradenton and went through some of his pregame routine, but felt tightness while running the bases during warmups. He was removed from the lineup “out of an abundance of caution,” according to a team spokesperson.

Lewis, 26, is off to a strong start this spring, going 2-for-5 in his first two games with a homer in his first at-bat of Grapefruit League play. He’s coming off an inconsistent season in which he hit .237/.283/.388, and hoping to rebound after working with an outside hitting coach for the first time this winter.
