Braun (infected finger) placed on injured list

The Brewers placed outfielder Ryan Braun on the 10-day injured list Sunday with an infected right index finger. The move is retroactive to Thursday.

Braun’s placement on the IL marked the second big hit to Milwaukee’s regular lineup this weekend, as center fielder Lorenzo Cain announced Saturday that he has elected not to play the remainder of the 2020 season. The Cardinals-Brewers games originally scheduled for this weekend -- including a doubleheader planned for Sunday -- have not yet been played due to positive tests for COVID-19 within the St. Louis traveling party.

The Brewers have not made corresponding moves to replace either Braun or Cain on the active roster.

Braun last played on Wednesday and was 3-for-13 with two RBIs to begin the 2020 campaign. The Brewers are 3-3 through their first six games, but the offense entered Sunday second to last in the National League in team batting average (.198), third worst in slugging (.330) and fifth worst in runs per game (4.0).
