KANSAS CITY -- Royals catcher Salvador Perez was removed from Thursday night's 4-1 loss to the Tigers in the fourth inning because of left groin soreness, the club announced.
Perez, who also has been battling an intercostal strain, was replaced by Drew Butera. Perez grounded out to short in the second inning in his lone at-bat in the series finale.
Royals manager Ned Yost said Perez has been dealing with soreness in the area for several weeks, and he added Perez would be day to day for the final weekend against the D-backs at Kauffman Stadium.
