Salvy, Gutierrez come off IL; Barnes DFA'd

KANSAS CITY -- The Royals on Monday re-instated catcher Salvador Perez and third baseman Kelvin Gutierrez from the 60-day injured list and designated right-hander Jacob Barnes for assignment.

Gutierrez was recovering from a fractured toe while Perez is coming back from Tommy John surgery that was performed during Spring Training. Perez is expected to be ready by Opening Day.

Barnes, 29, was claimed off waivers from the Brewers in early August. He appeared in 15 games in relief for the Royals and was 0-4 with an 8.31 ERA. With the Brewers this season, Barnes appeared in 18 games and had a 1-1 mark with a 6.86 ERA.

When a player's contract is designated for assignment -- often abbreviated "DFA" -- that player is immediately removed from his club's 40-man roster, and 25-man roster if he was on that as well. Within seven days of the transaction (it was previously 10 days), the player must either be traded, released or placed on irrevocable outright waivers.

The Royals’ 40-man roster is now full.
