Led by Ramos, Giants Top 30 features intriguing talent

After winning three World Series and averaging 87 wins per season in the first seven years of decade, the Giants crashed to 98 losses in 2017. They tied the Tigers for the worst record in baseball while enduring their worst season since 1985.

If San Francisco bounces back in 2018, it will happen because offseason acquisitions Evan Longoria and Andrew McCutchen spark the offense and a number of veterans regain their previous form after down years. Though the Giants system seems to keep producing big leaguers without getting much acclaim, it doesn't have anyone ready to provide an immediate impact. Right-hander Tyler Beede has a chance to crack the rotation, while outfielders Chris Shaw, Steven Duggar and Austin Slater are nearly ready but have no obvious avenue to big league playing time.
If there was a positive for San Francisco in 2017, it would be the additions of some intriguing talents. First-round pick Heliot Ramos has the highest ceiling of any Giants prospect since Buster Posey, and second-rounder Jacob Gonzalez (son of Luis) is one of the most gifted hitters in the system. A July trade that sent Eduardo Núñez to the Red Sox also netted a pair of promising right-handers in Shaun Anderson and Gregory Santos.
