Pirates top prospect Hernandez headed to IL with left oblique issue

Seth Hernandez -- the Pirates’ top prospect and MLB Pipeline’s No. 6 overall -- has been placed on the injured list. Hernandez is dealing with a left oblique issue, according to MLB.com’s Jonathan Mayo.
The injury occurred during Hernandez’s last outing with High-A Greensboro, which came on Friday. The flame-throwing righty pitched three innings, allowing just one hit and striking out five.
The overall severity of the injury -- and how long it could keep Hernandez off the mound -- is currently unknown.
Hernandez, 20, was the sixth overall pick by the Pirates in last year’s Draft. He needed just six starts with Single-A Bradenton before getting the bump to High-A, and he’d been similarly impressive since. Hernandez owns a 2.43 ERA across both levels, including an eye-opening 118 strikeouts in 74 innings pitched.
His dominant debut professional campaign also included a perfect inning with two K’s in the All-Star Futures Game.
