St. John’s University will honor the life of Shannon Forde during Tuesday's men’s basketball game against Georgetown at Madison Square Garden, remembering the SJU graduate and long-time Mets media relations staple in advance of the 10-year anniversary of her passing.

Long-time Mets pitcher and St. John’s alumnus John Franco and Ed Kull, the school’s vice president and director of athletics, will join Forde’s family, which will receive a St. John’s basketball jersey.

Mets PR director Forde dies of breast cancer

Forde graduated from St. John’s with a dual bachelor’s degree in psychology and sports management in 1994. She went on to spend 22 years in the Mets’ media relations department, beginning as an intern in 1994 before rising all the way to senior director.

During her time with the club, Forde played an integral role in overseeing publicity during the Mets’ pennant-winning seasons of 2000 and 2015, working closely with eight future Hall of Famers, including Mike Piazza and Pedro Martinez.

Forde was diagnosed with Stage 4 breast cancer in 2012 and continued to work as long as she could before succumbing to the disease on March 4, 2016. Forde’s memory lives on in her hometown of Little Ferry, N.J., where the local ballpark was renamed Shannon Dalton Forde Field in 2022.
