Comeback complete as A's reinstate Langeliers from injured list

WEST SACRAMENTO -- The A’s have weathered blow after blow in 2026, dealing with a seemingly endless stream of long-term injuries to their top hitters.
So when All-Star catcher Shea Langeliers was activated from the injured list on Saturday, it was a rare piece of good news for a club in the midst of a tough season.
Langeliers was expected to miss the rest of 2026 after undergoing surgery on July 28 to repair a torn meniscus in his right knee. But he was determined to return before the end of the season and beat that timeline, coming off the IL on Saturday after rehab games with Triple-A Las Vegas on Thursday and Friday.
Langeliers served as the Aviators’ designated hitter in both contests, going 3-for-5 between the two games with a pair of doubles and one RBI. It was a reminder of the power he can offer: The American League’s starting catcher in the All-Star Game, Langeliers had a .263/.332/.497 slash line with 23 home runs and 51 RBIs in 93 games before his knee injury.
He will not spend time behind the plate for the A’s, who have used Jonah Heim and Brian Serven as their catchers since Langeliers’ injury. But Langeliers will be a valuable addition as a DH or pinch-hitter for an A’s team that has seen season-ending injuries to Brent Rooker, Nick Kurtz, Tyler Soderstrom and Jacob Wilson.
