Shields 0-4 mark more a lack of run support

Right-handed starter James Shields is 0-4 on the season.
And it's not his fault.
The Padres have scored four runs in the 33 innings when Shields has been on the mound this season. That is a 1.09 run support average.
In two of his five starts, the Padres have been shutout when Shields started.
Shields earned run average after five starts is 3.55. A year ago, he was 2-0 at the end of April with a 2.90 ERA.
In order, the Padres have scored 0-2-2-0-0 runs in the five games started by Shields. They have not scored a run in the last 16 innings when he has been the pitcher of record.
NOTES FROM THE SCOREBOOK:
--First baseman Wil Myers is one game shy of matching his career-best hitting streak. Myers singled in four at-bats Tuesday night in San Francisco to stretch his hitting streak to 11 straight games, which is the longest by a Padre this season. Myers is 18-for-47 (.383) during the streak with three doubles, two homers and six RBIs. Remember his strikeout streak. He struck out Tuesday, his first strikeout in five games after striking out at least once in each of the Padres first 16 games.
--Want to compute the loss of starting infielders Yangervis Solarte and Cory Spangenberg to the disabled list? Current starters Adam Rosales and Jemile Weeks are hitting a combined .203 (12-for-59) with three doubles, a homer and six RBIs. Rosales is 8-for-38 and Weeks is 4-for-21.
--Center fielder Jon Jay has hit safely in eight of the last nine games, going 12-for-38 (.316). Jay has hit safely in 16 of the 20 games he has started this season, opening the year with an eight-game hitting streak.
--Shortstop Alexei Ramirez is hitting .295 (13-for-44) over his last 11 games and is 5-for-11 in his last three games.
