What would you do if you had about $2.5 million burning a hole through your pocket?

Someone decided to use that cash to purchase a one-of-a-kind Shohei Ohtani rookie card on Sunday.

According to Goldin Auctions, an Ohtani 2018 Topps Chrome SuperFractor Rookie Card, graded 9.5 out of 10, was sold at public auction for $2,562,229. The card is a 1-of-1, meaning there is only one of its kind that has been produced.

The final sale price doesn't quite match the $3 million that someone bid for an Ohtani 2025 Topps Chrome Gold Logoman Autograph Card, but Goldin states that this is the highest public sale price for any Ohtani rookie card.

Ohtani was the AL Rookie of the Year with the Angels in 2018 after recording a .925 OPS in 367 plate appearances and pitching to a 3.31 ERA in 51 2/3 innings. That was the start of what has been one of the greatest careers in MLB history and has obviously contributed to some massive prices in Ohtani's hobby market.
