Stats of the Day: For Mets, late HRs are great

Here are three interesting items from around the big leagues on Thursday …
• José Reyes hit a game-tying homer in the ninth and Asdrúbal Cabrera delivered a game-ending homer in the 11th as the Mets defeated the Phillies, 9-8. In both cases, the Mets were down by two runs before the big blasts. New York is the only team in at least the past 40 years to have multiple homers in the ninth inning or later that tied or put the team ahead, with each deficit overcome being at least two runs.
• In the first game of a doubleheader, Twins second baseman Brian Dozier led off the bottom of the first with a homer -- the 42nd time this season he has gone yard. Of Dozier's 42, 40 have come while playing second; he is now two shy of tying Rogers Hornsby (1922) and Davey Johnson ('73) for the most in a season as a second sacker. At 40, Dozier is tied with Ryne Sandberg ('90).

• In Los Angeles, Dodgers catcher Yasmani Grandal homered twice and drove in five runs as part of a four-hit night. It is the third time in Grandal's Dodgers career that he has authored a line with at least four hits and five RBIs. Since 1913, the only other Dodgers catchers to have three such games: Roy Campanella and Mike Piazza. Dating back to '13, the most for any catcher is four, a mark shared by Bill Dickey (all with the Yankees), Gabby Hartnett (all with the Cubs) and Ivan Rodriguez (two for the Rangers, one for the Marlins and one with the Tigers).
