MIAMI – Marlins top prospect Thomas White’s 2026 season is in jeopardy after sustaining a left shoulder capsular sprain last month.
With an estimated recovery timeline of 12-16 weeks from the date of the injury, that would mean a possible return sometime between mid-August and September, making it highly unlikely White debuts in the Majors in 2026.
The 21-year-old left-hander, who ranks as MLB Pipeline’s No. 13 overall prospect, began the season on the injured list after being diagnosed with a Grade 1 right oblique strain. After a pair of rehab outings for Single-A Jupiter, White rejoined Triple-A Jacksonville on April 16 and posted a 4.34 ERA and a 1.446 WHIP in five starts. He had not pitched since May 14, when he allowed four runs in four innings. He was placed on the injured list on May 20, retroactive to May 19.
This is the latest blow to the organization’s upper-level starting-pitching depth.
Fellow southpaw Robby Snelling (Marlins No. 2 prospect, No. 26 overall) underwent season-ending UCL surgery last month, and righty Adam Mazur had the same procedure performed during Spring Training. Righties Eury Pérez (right leg strain) and Janson Junk (right shin inflammation) went on the 15-day injured list during the club’s recent three-city road trip.
The Marlins also announced that No. 8 prospect Kemp Alderman sustained a left elbow sprain on May 17 and had a recovery timeline of 4-6 weeks from the date of injury, meaning he is 1-3 weeks from a return.
Alderman was playing some first base to go along with outfield at the time of the setback.
